alysha akbarCongratulations to Fourth Grade Teacher Alysha Akbar who was recognized as the FCPS 2021 Region 1 Outstanding Elementary Teacher and one of the five finalists for the FCPS Outstanding Elementary Teacher at this year's FCPS Honors event, held at Jiffy Lube Live on June 9th.

Alysha’s enthusiasm and passion to build relationships and create lifelong learners is evident both in and out of the classroom. From dressing up as Ms. Frizzle to teach science, to imitating a game show announcer to excite families at PTA events, Alysha’s contagious energy serves to create positive environments for her community. She is dedicated to creating inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive classrooms, and is passionate about all students having books in which they can see themselves. Whether it’s dropping off books to her former and current students or creating archaeology simulations with Play-Doh to provide cross-curricular instruction, Alysha takes advantage of any opportunity in which she can excite children about learning.
